- The Unwanted Wife's Return

Our The Unwanted Wife's Return review covers the first four chapters of The Unwanted Wife's Return by Oma, published on GoodNovel. It is one of the books readers are passing around right now, often reposted under other names. Please read it on the official platform.
Some romances take ten chapters to find their hook. This one finds it in the first scene. Hannah Jones walks into her parents' living room with her headphones still on, and her mother tells her she is leaving school and getting married. Tonight. To a man she has never met.
The setup
The Jones family company is days from collapse. The wealthy Martinez family will rescue it on one condition: a Jones daughter marries their son, Elijah. Everyone assumed it would be Janet, the younger, favourite daughter. But Janet is "too young", her mother says, and Hannah, the one who cooks and cleans and never complains, is apparently the daughter they can spare.
When Hannah refuses, things move fast. Her father collapses with a heart attack. Guards lock her in her room. Maids dress her in an ivory gown without saying a word, and she is driven to the courthouse in Janet's brand-new car while Janet waves from the driveway with a small, satisfied smile.
Elijah arrives straight from work, distracted, holding a drink, and barely looks at her. By the end of the night Hannah understands the cruellest part of the deal: Elijah wanted Janet, her parents knew it, and they sent Hannah anyway.
The morning after
Chapter 2 is where the book shows its teeth. Elijah wakes up, finally sees her face and asks who she is. Hannah holds out the marriage certificate: she is his wife. His parents arrive beaming, expecting Janet, and Mrs Martinez's smile freezes.
Then the Jones family calls on speaker. Her mother plays shocked. And Janet, sobbing, tells everyone that Hannah tricked her, took her dress and her car, and stole her wedding. Nobody in the room believes Hannah. Instead of an annulment, Elijah decides they will stay married for two months to avoid a scandal, then quietly divorce. His mother's verdict: Hannah touches nothing, attends nothing. "She's a ghost."
What works
- The villains are frighteningly calm. Janet's phone call to Hannah in chapter 3 is the chill of the opening: she admits she never wanted Elijah and that Hannah was always the family's backup plan.
- Small kindnesses land. The cook, Mrs Cheng, teaches Hannah to bake, and the news that Elijah ate her chocolate cake "every crumb" is the warmest moment of the opening.
- The exit. Chapter 4 ends with Hannah leaving her ring on the hall table before dawn and walking away. Nobody calls her name. It is a perfect launch for a comeback story.
What to know before you start
This is a dark opening. Elijah is not a hero yet, and one of the early chapters is hard to read; we won't describe it. If you need your male lead to be kind from page one, this isn't your book. If you love a slow, satisfying reversal where the people who discarded the heroine have to watch her return on her own terms, the title is a promise.
Who it's for
Readers of wrong-bride and contract-marriage stories, billionaire romance with a revenge arc, and anyone who has ever wanted to see a golden-child sister finally get caught.
Our first impression: a brutal, fast opening with a clear direction. The question is whether Elijah's change of heart, when it comes, will be earned.
