This Two Can Play recap part 20 covers chapters 481–500, with spoilers. Seraphine's chapters involve dangerous pills, gambling and exploitation; we summarise them in a few lines and don't describe them.
The island
We left Seraphine on an island of powerful men, holding a fifty-billion-dollar cheque she can't cash for a week. The book now shows what that bargain costs her.
Emerson leaves the island "on business" with one rule: she's not to go near any other man unless he offers her himself. Within hours, the pill she was given at the island's "tradition" nearly stops her heart. A stranger called Cara Langley lets herself in, "saves" her, and hands her the number of her supplier.
The supplier is Blaze, who charges a million dollars for a bag of "happy pills". Seraphine is soon taking them like candy. Cara talks her into a night at The Club. There she breaks Emerson's rule, sits down at a baccarat table, and chases her losses to thirty billion. She refuses to pay, and she ends up paying in a way we won't describe.
She stumbles out of the back room straight into Emerson. He never left the island. Over his shoulder, Cara is chatting with Blaze. Before Seraphine can say a word, Emerson knocks her out cold.
Our read: everything about Cara and Blaze looks arranged. If it's a loyalty test, Seraphine has failed it at every step.
Tasha's morning
Tasha admits to herself that the apology was an act, and feels "a thin layer of shame for how easily the lie had come". Before dawn she watches Scarlett slip out of Sparrow's room, smiling. She decides she can't trust Scarlett, and fixes on a name Scarlett let slip: Seraphine. Tasha wants to find her and hear the truth about Sparrow from her.
Then Granny calls, hoping for "great-grandchildren". Tasha doesn't mention what Sparrow did, only that he threw her out. Granny's answer: "Cancel your plans. You and I have work to do."
Stew
And the hundred chapters end in a kitchen. Celeste brings Dominic home to meet her mother. She's so nervous she nearly walks into the garden hose.
Her mother made stew and would have made a roast if anyone had told her. She announces that she's suspicious of handsome men, because Celeste's father was handsome and "made me happy for years". She tells Dominic he's too thin. Celeste lists his flaws: "He snores." "He once wore brown shoes with a black belt." Dominic: "I have a man for that. The man is me, and I fixed it."
Then he puts a midnight-blue box between the salt and pepper. He tells her he loves her daughter, asks for her blessing, and invites her to the engagement party. She cries, hugs Celeste ("You found someone who looks at you the way your father looked at me"), and then sits him down for the talk: her daughter acts tough, but she's the softest thing she ever raised.
"Yes, ma'am."
"It is not yes, ma'am. It is yes, Mom."
