Greymoor Academy Recap Part 1: Rejected and Bitten
The rejection, the revenge plan, the bite in the woods, the masked ball and the banishment. Everything that happens in chapters 1–42 of Greymoor Academy.
Greymoor Academy recap part 1 covers chapters 1–42. Spoilers for this range only. The novel is for adults; we keep everything here non-graphic.
The maid who won a scholarship (chapters 1–4)
Maisie Adams is eighteen, an Omega orphan who has worked as a maid in the Night Shade packhouse since her parents' deaths. Her twin sister Lana was adopted by the wealthy Braxtons and pretends not to know her. On the morning Maisie leaves for Greymoor Academy on the Lycan Queen's scholarship, Cole Hayes, the Alpha heir, kicks over her bucket and tells her to start over.
At school she walks straight into Cole and realises he is her fated mate. He rejects her in front of everyone, mocking the fact that she cannot shift. His mother, Luna Kaida, then forbids Maisie to leave the pack, because Cole needs his mate close to reach full strength. The rejected bond punishes Maisie with pain every time Cole is with someone else.
The revenge plan (chapters 5–8)
Her best friends Regina and Jenny come up with a plan built on one idea: the bond goes both ways, so what she does, he feels. Step one is a makeover. At the boutique Maisie falls into Crown Prince Soren Black, who teases her and leaves a card embossed with four crests and the words "You're it."
At the first-year mixer her new look stops the room. Cole corners her, jealous and cruel, and she breaks his nose. Running into the forest to get away from him, she gets lost, twists her ankle and is chased by four huge creatures. One of them bites her. Before she passes out, a voice says "Tag. You're it."
Chosen by the Lycans (chapters 9–18)
Maisie wakes up in her own bed with no injuries. In combat class she cannot shift, Lana beats her in front of everyone, and no fourth year picks her for training. Then the four Lycan royals walk in: Soren, red-haired Mercer, blond Quinlan and silent, silver-haired Jericho. Mercer points at her: "She's with us."
Fake videos threaten her scholarship, and in the cafeteria Maisie loses control and throws Cole across the hall with strength she should not have. She wakes up in the Lycans' glass mansion at Cresthill. Jericho explains why: she was bitten, and within weeks she will either not survive the change or become a Lycan. All four admit they bit her. Maisie refuses to become anybody's "breeding mare", and Soren agrees only to train her through the transition.
The masked ball (chapters 19–32)
Regina updates the plan: make the Lycans fall for her, so they keep her alive. Before that can happen, the pack Council orders a brutal public punishment for Maisie striking the future Luna, carried out by Lana. Mercer later sees the scars during sparring and asks who hurt her. Her answer is that everyone has.
Soren's side of the story arrives in chapters 23–24: he hints that Maisie's father did not really die of a heart attack, and we learn the Queen has exiled Soren to Ashbourne for skipping his own wedding to Lady Tessa Graham. The Queen gives him eight weeks to go through with it, or Maisie will pay.
At Cole and Lana's masked engagement ball, Maisie arrives in a red dress as "Kayla, a guest of the Parks". She declines a dance with Prince Soren in front of the whole hall and dances with Lyon Park, Jenny's brother and her childhood crush, instead. Cole drags her away and kisses her by force, and then Lana accuses her of stealing a family heirloom. Guards "find" a trunk of stolen jewellery under her bed. Alpha Dante banishes her. Soren simply asks whether they will mind if he takes her with him, and Jericho knocks Cole out when he objects.
Welcome home (chapters 33–42)
Maisie becomes the Crown Prince's ward, which means no pack can touch her without starting a war. She gets a room, a schedule, a handbook written by a past Lycan's lover, and a list of rules about scent, eye contact, running and red dresses, most of which she has already broken. She begins to change: her scars fade, her eyes flash gold and then black.
Lana, it turns out, planted the trunk. A bite from Jericho is meant to calm the change and instead wakes something ancient and playful inside her. Then Alpha Dante arrives with the Council's ruling: Maisie is Cole's true mate and must become his Luna.
What we noticed
- The card in chapter 5 and the voice in chapter 8 say the same thing. The Lycans chose her before she ever knew who they were.
- Cole's line about "starting over" in chapter 1 comes back much later, in a very different mouth. Our details you missed post tracks the echo.
- Maisie's refusal to be a "breeding mare" in chapter 18 is the first statement of the book's big theme: who gets to choose. We dig into it in our mate bond essay.
