Greymoor Academy Recap Part 2: The Stolen Wedding

The cold war at Cresthill, Tessa's arrival, Kisten Hunt, the bonfire and the royal wedding where the groom walked past his bride. Chapters 43–83.

Greymoor Academy recap part 2 covers chapters 43–83. Spoilers up to the duel. This stretch has several dark scenes, which we mention without describing.

"No" (chapters 43–52)

Maisie refuses to become Cole's Luna, the first time she has ever said no to an Alpha, and his command barely touches her. Soren asks Dante for time. A royal liaison named Brynn begins teaching her court etiquette, including the Lycan tradition that one woman chooses four to eight mates.

Cole catches her alone in the forest and tries to force his mark on her. Soren tears him away and nearly ends him, and Maisie stops a war the only way she can think of: she kisses Soren. What follows is one of the book's ugliest turns. Soren, blind with jealousy, humiliates her, and the four freeze her out. They parade other women through the house, sit with Lana at school, and finally destroy weeks of Maisie's coursework in a cruel scene at the waterfall.

A memory and a rival (chapters 53–58)

In a dream, a buried memory returns. When Maisie was twelve, rogues came to her father's kitchen asking for "the brunette". Her father refused and did not survive it. As they carried her into the woods under a red moon, four young Lycans, one black, one silver, one golden and one red, saved her.

Then Tessa Graham arrives: moon-white hair, a white fur coat, and a title she repeats to everyone. She is the Crown Prince's betrothed and the four princes' intended bride. When Tessa gets close to Maisie, she tastes something on her and turns on Soren. Quinlan's chapter explains it: the bites in the woods were marks. The four's cruelty was a performance to keep Maisie alive, because Tessa has hurt women they cared about before. It explains a great deal. It does not excuse it.

Tessa makes Maisie serve at every wedding fitting and tries to drown her in the bath.

Costa Ridge and Kisten Hunt (chapters 59–66)

Under pressure, the change breaks through in the middle of an exam. Lyon calms her in the library. Later, at a club across town, someone spikes her drink. Mercer finds her, and in the woods of Costa Ridge they are ambushed with ash, the one thing made to stop Lycans. A huge white-and-red Lycan shifts back into a man, Kisten Hunt, who claims to be her half-brother and her promised husband. Soren arrives in time, and Quinlan, wounded, asks permission before he carries her.

The bonfire (chapters 67–72)

Chapter 67 is Maisie's turning point. She asks herself why she ever decided that mattering to the four was the measure of whether she mattered at all. Then she drags every gift they ever bought her onto the front steps, sets it on fire, and walks out in the ball gown she was banished in.

She moves into Regina's dorm, aces her make-up tests and rewrites her term paper. Meanwhile Lyon confesses his feelings, and Maisie overhears that Lana is pregnant and that Cole wants nothing to do with it. Then the Queen's guards sedate her and fly her to the royal estate. Queen Lysandra explains what the bite really means: the change is triggered by being claimed by your Erasthai, your destined bond. Maisie is theirs, and the Queen plans to punish her for it at the Red Moon.

The wedding (chapters 73–83)

Held against her will, Maisie fights her way out and runs into the amphitheatre just as Tessa walks down the aisle. They collide. The court laughs, until Soren says a single word and the hall goes silent. He walks past his bride to Maisie. The four carry her to the altar and force the ceremony through. Maisie decides that if they insist on using her, she will use them, and she chooses Soren first. The bond locks into place and the priestess crowns her a princess.

The Queen cannot read Maisie's mind, and looks shaken when she hears the name of Maisie's mother, Matilda. Tessa demands a duel for the crown that night. Maisie refuses a blade. Tessa, trained by Mercer just as she was, beats her badly. At the edge of defeat, Maisie meets her Lycan in her own head and accepts it as a partner rather than a master. She rises with red eyes, overpowers Tessa, and starts her first shift in front of the whole court.

What we noticed

  • Maisie's "I'm not a cheat" before the duel is the moral opposite of Tessa, who arrives armed with the four's history.
  • The four's reason for the cold war is revealed to readers in chapter 56, but Maisie only hears their side after the wedding, in chapter 80. Most of her anger in this arc is completely justified.
  • For the wedding from the four's side, read our Soren Black analysis and Tessa Graham explained.

Questions readers ask

Does Soren marry Tessa?

No. At the ceremony in chapter 73 he walks past Tessa to Maisie, and the four marry Maisie instead in chapters 74–76.

Why were the Lycans so cold to Maisie?

Chapter 56 reveals they had marked her in the woods and were pretending she meant nothing to protect her from Tessa and the Queen.

Who wins the duel between Maisie and Tessa?

Maisie, in chapter 83, after she accepts her Lycan as a partner. Her eyes glow red instead of black.
