Two Can Play Recap Part 18: The Castro Debt

Pat and Kingsley start over, Sharon turns out to be Celeste's cousin, and her father brings twenty men to Helix. Then Celeste's oldest wound opens, and Dominic makes one phone call.

This Two Can Play recap part 18 covers chapters 413–428, with spoilers. This arc includes a violent flashback and a pregnancy loss; we mention them briefly and without detail.

"Sharon is my past"

Kingsley takes Pat to lunch and apologises for how he reacted to her news. He still believes she ended the pregnancy, and Pat, carrying his child, doesn't correct him.

Then he tells her about Sharon. They were college sweethearts. When his family lost everything, she left him. When his mother was dying and he begged her for help, she said she was broke, and posted holiday photos the same week. Now that he's rich again, she's been messaging him on every channel.

Pat asks the only question that matters: do you still love her? He doesn't lie: something stirred when he saw her. "But I can never have anything to do with her." Pat says yes to dating him. The ring stays in his pocket "until we're very sure".

Back at Helix, Celeste admits the other half: Sharon's full name is Sharon Adams. She's Celeste's cousin.

The night before

We rewind to Celeste's side. It was Celeste who called Kingsley the night before Vivian's party: "If you truly care about her, this is your chance to be her knight in shining armour." She sent him the address before sunrise.

And Dominic came home having closed the Imelda chapter his own way. He took the blame in front of Imelda's father and handed him a billion-dollar acquisition as compensation. "Money comes back, Celeste. You do not."

Twenty men

That evening, cars box in Celeste and Pat on the road outside Helix. More than twenty men get out with knives and sticks. At the front is Castro Adams, Sharon's father. "You raised your hand to my princess, Celeste."

Celeste steps in front of pregnant Pat with something to defend herself hidden against her thigh. "The moment I move, you run."

She never has to. Her bodyguards, whom she has never once seen armed, turn out to be armed and trained. One warning, a partner on the Helix roof, and Castro's men scatter within seconds. Castro is carried off; Sharon doesn't look back. Nobody on Celeste's side is hurt.

Celeste asks the guards not to tell Dominic. She copies the security footage and makes two calls: a detective, and the best criminal lawyer she knows. "I am going to send Castro Adams to prison."

The yellow house

She hides it all at dinner. That night the past comes back as a dream. She is nine. Castro's men break into the house her father worked so hard to buy. The attack costs her father his health, and her mother loses the baby sister Celeste had been waiting for. Castro stands over them: "Before me, you are all nothing… because I have money and you have nothing." It was her father's money to begin with.

Her mother fought in court and lost, then taught her children that hate was a poison they couldn't afford. Celeste let it go. Until today.

"Your fight is my fight"

Dominic wakes her. She can't hold the lie, and she breaks down in his arms. He doesn't ask. He holds her, then walks out of the room. She finds him in the hallway on the phone to Sparrow: the Castro family and everyone who helped them are to be found and sent to prison. "I am willing to pay any amount."

When he turns and finds her there, he asks for one promise: no more secrets. Then he says it: "Your problem is my problem. Your fight is my fight. Your family is my family. And Celeste, for you, I can do anything."

What we noticed

  • The book finally explains why Celeste learned to fight her own battles. It started long before Julian.
  • Pat's secret about the baby is still unresolved, and Kingsley's apology makes it heavier.
  • Celeste wants justice through the courts, while Dominic's call to Sparrow promises something harsher. The book leaves that tension open.

Questions readers ask

Who is Sharon?

Sharon Adams is Kingsley's ex, who left him when his family lost everything, and she is also Celeste's cousin. Her father, Castro Adams, ruined Celeste's family years ago.

Do Pat and Kingsley get back together?

Yes. Around chapter 415 Pat agrees to date him. He keeps the ring "until we're very sure". She still hasn't told him she kept the baby.

What did Castro do to Celeste's family?

Years ago his men attacked their home. Celeste's father never recovered, and her mother lost the baby she was carrying. The family never got justice.
