Pursuing My Rejected Luna Recap Part 4: Benji

Benji's birth with both men at Skye's side, newborn nights, and Jaxon moving into the west wing. Everything that happens in chapters 121–152.

This Pursuing My Rejected Luna recap part 4 covers chapters 121–152: the last weeks of the pregnancy, Benji's birth, and the first months of a very unusual household. Spoilers through chapter 152.

Previously, in Part 3: the move to the Woolf estate, the first kiss and the fake paternity test.

Chapters 121–126: The person is the point

At eight months, nesting at the estate, Skye notices something she never felt at Ironwood: home. Her bond with Jaxon never felt like this, and Nicolai isn't even her fated mate. Her conclusion is one of the book's central lines: the bond was never the point, the person is. They settle on Benjamin Marco and argue cheerfully over girls' names for some future child.

Jaxon is genuinely trying. His weekly visits continue, and he brings a honey she once mentioned in passing. But in chapter 123 he watches Nicolai lose a battle with a baby swing and understands why he lost her: it was never a question of capacity, Nicolai simply tried. When Jaxon asks for one more chance, Skye admits she still feels the bond, but the pull means nothing if nothing else holds it up. Nicolai tells Jaxon on the steps to stop showing up as the man she should have had and start being him.

In a late-night kitchen talk Skye asks Nicolai to be Benji's father. Not instead of Jaxon, but the one who is there every day. He says yes, on one condition: they never lie to Benji about who is who. That night her labour begins, and she asks him to call Jaxon.

Chapters 127–130: Benjamin Marco

The birth happens at the estate with Dr Chernov and two nurses. Nicolai is her wall and keeps everyone talking to her, not around her. Jaxon arrives two hours in and takes her other hand. In chapter 128 Benjamin Marco is born, loud and dark-haired, with Jaxon on her left and Nicolai on her right.

Holding his son, Jaxon breaks down and promises Benji the world. Watching Nicolai with the baby, and Skye with Nicolai, he feels grief rather than jealousy, grief he knows he earned. On the steps he tells Nicolai that Benji will know his father. Nicolai answers that he will be Benji's father too, and Jaxon accepts it.

Chapters 131–135: Newborn nights

Six weeks of chaos follow. Nicolai learns to decode every cry. Jaxon visits daily, then every other day, and is a patient, loving father, but Benji turns toward Nicolai's voice, the one he has heard every day since before he was born. In chapter 132 Nicolai walks a crying Benji up and down the hallway at 3 a.m. while Skye sits on the floor and cries for the woman who once believed she wasn't worth choosing.

Dimitri points out that Skye never formally rejected her old bond with Jaxon. Nicolai wants her to, so they can bond, and is afraid to ask. Meanwhile Jaxon tells Noah what he actually wants: to be the one who stays.

Chapters 136–145: The west wing

In chapter 136 Jaxon turns his car around and makes an offer, not a request: let him live in the estate's empty west wing so he can be a daily father, while Noah runs Ironwood. Skye admits she doesn't trust her own judgement after three years of being wrong; Nicolai replies that the instrument wasn't broken, the data was.

Skye and Nicolai take their relationship further, then speak at the same moment: let Jaxon move in, and break the bond with Jaxon. Nicolai agrees to the west wing with terms, because Benji having his father close outweighs his own discomfort. Skye decides to reject the old bond so she can choose what she is bonded to, and she will tell Jaxon first.

Jaxon moves in under clear rules: a schedule, his own space, no using closeness as leverage, and problems raised directly. Alone in the west wing he breaks down. The first dinner of five is awkward. Pack gossip compares Skye to Cassandra; she no longer cares.

Chapters 146–152: Something beyond the echo

Over morning coffee the two men reach a truce. Jaxon says he hates that it's Nicolai, but he is glad it's someone who sees her worth. Skye keeps delaying the call to her lawyer Gianna and knows there is a reason she isn't examining.

Jaxon accidentally walks in on an intimate moment and sees an expression on Skye's face that he never saw in three years. Noah tells him she always mattered that much, just not to him. Over two whiskies Jaxon realises the bond is the last thing he holds that isn't his to hold, and looks at Gianna's number.

In chapter 152, before dawn in the nursery, Skye admits to herself that there is something beyond the bond's echo for the man Jaxon has become. Not what she has with Nicolai, but something. Can she have both? Should she?

Key takeaways

  • The birth scene sets the shape of the ending: two men on either side of her.
  • Jaxon's redemption is built on routine, not grand gestures.
  • Skye's delay over the bond is the hinge for Part 5.
